The Foundation Schools
https://www.foundationschools.org/
For 50 years, The Foundation Schools’ mix of academic support and therapeutic services has given thousands of students another chance to reach their full potential. The Foundation Schools was founded in 1975 by Dr. John Meeks who believed that, “the work of children and adolescents was school.” The schools were based in the area’s leading inpatient psychiatric hospitals until 1993 when The Foundation Schools became separate day schools. Today, The Foundation Schools serve more than 300 students in the Washington, DC metropolitan area in grades K-12 with emotional disabilities and autism at four schools.

The Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative (GBCI) is a collaboration between residents of Asbury Methodist Village and a network of community partners that includes other non-profits, government agencies, and schools to support the needs of at-risk children, youth, and families. We believe that by listening to and understanding the community in which we live, we can take meaningful collective action to help fulfill the dream as envisioned by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., of a Gaithersburg "beloved community."
