Facilitated by Denise Fredericks (Mercy Health Clinic) and Deborah Zimmer (Universities at Shady Grove), this group will explore professional development and strategic planning topics specifically of interest to our GGCC Nonprofit members, as well as highlight one of our members each month! The group will meet with 2nd Monday each month (time might vary by month), on zoom for now.

Derrick Tanner, DEI Specialist/Chief of Staff at the Universities at Shady Grove, will be sharing strategies to help nonprofit organizations create a sense of belonging in the workplace and describe how belonging positively impacts employee engagement and retention. Derrick is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Education Leadership in Changing Populations.

SPECIAL OFFERING APRIL 2024 UPCOUNTY BUSINESS BRIEFING - County Government edition.
Through the Gaithersburg-Germantown Economic Development & Legislative Affairs Committee, the Chamber will proactively work with City, County and State Leaders to support the Economic Development of Gaithersburg, Germantown and surrounding jurisdictions, and represent the GGCC and its members in a pro-active manner in the formulation of state and local legislation and policy affecting the business community. These meetings are open to all members to attend and learn more about the various economic and legislative topics impacting businesses in our area.
Hosted at Hughes Network Systems, Germantown. This is a special gathering of the GGCC Economic Development & Legislative Affairs Committee and is open to all committee members and all GGCC Chamber members. Space is limited, however. Deadline - HS Seniors apply to Nymeo college scholarships
A college education is one of the most important investments a person can make. Nymeo is dedicated to helping youth in our communities as they begin this journey by offering two college scholarship opportunities.
Nymeo Federal Credit Union is excited to announce that once again we will be offering two $1,500 college scholarships to deserving high school seniors in Frederick or Montgomery Counties. It is not necessary to be a credit union member to apply for this scholarship. Deadline for applications is midnight, April 15th, 2024. Awards will be announced in May 2024.
Also, Nymeo and the Credit Union Foundation of MD|DC have scholarship opportunities for any student who is a member of a MD|DC Credit Union. College-bound members are eligible to apply for one of ten $1,000 essay-based scholarships and one of two $1,000 video-based scholarships. Deadline for applications is midnight, April 15th, 2024. Awards will be announced in June 2024.

Nobel Laureate Speaker Series: Dr. David J. Wineland
Nobel Laureate, Dr. David Wineland, will speak at Montgomery College on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 9:30 – 11:00 am.
During his presentation entitled, “Quantum Computers and Raising Schrodinger’s Cat,” Dr. Wineland will explain “superposition states,” “qubits” and experiments whose goal is to realize a quantum computer based on laser manipulations of atomic ions.
While Dr. Wineland was the co-recipient of the 2012 Nobel prize in Physics for his “ground-breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems” this talk is intended for a general audience. The event is free, open to the public and will take place in Globe Hall in the High Technology and Science Center on the Germantown Campus.
Dr. Wineland is currently a Philip H. Knight Distinguished Research Chair and Research Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Oregon in Eugene, OR.
