For more than 47 years, The Foundation Schools’ mix of academic support and therapeutic services has given thousands of students another chance to reach their full potential. The Foundation Schools was founded in 1975 by Dr. John Meeks who believed that, “the work of children and adolescents was school.” The schools were based in the area’s leading inpatient psychiatric hospitals until 1993 when The Foundation Schools became separate day schools. Today, The Foundation Schools serve more than 300 students in the Washington, DC metropolitan area in grades K-12 with emotional disabilities and autism at four schools.
